달리는 기차 안에서 창밖을 스치는 이미지를 바라볼 때,
우리는 그것을 하나의 객체가 아닌 연속적인 흐름으로 기억합니다. 이러한 현상은 피크노랩시(Pyknolepsy: 기억부재증)로 설명될 수 있습니다.

저는 모든 것이 가속화된 현대 사회의 피크노랩시적 흐름 속에서,
충분히 지각되지 못한 사회적 이슈와
일상 속에서 무심코 지나쳐버린 순간들의 잔상을
회화를 통해 시각화합니다.

초기의 작업은 사건으로부터 출발하였으나,
점진적인 스토리텔링을 통해 서사가 확장되며
어두운 주제의 방향을 전환하고자
동화적 서사를 차용한 신데렐라 시리즈로 이어집니다.

이 시리즈에는 작고 하찮은 오리가 등장하며,
이 존재는 이야기의 흐름을 바꾸는
희망의 상징으로 자리합니다.

평범한 일상 속 작은 빛은
때로는 아무런 의미가 없어 보일 수 있습니다.
하지만 완전한 어둠 속에서는
그 작은 빛조차도 가장 찬란하게 빛납니다.

저의 작업이 일상의 어두운 이면에 놓인 작은 빛이 되어,
길을 잃은 이들에게 다시 방향을 제시하는
하나의 이정표가 되기를 바랍니다.

When looking at images passing by outside the window of a moving train, we tend to remember them not as individual objects, but as a continuous flow. This phenomenon can be explained by pyknolepsy, a form of perceptual absence in memory.

Within this accelerated contemporary society shaped by pyknoleptic conditions, I visualize through painting the social issues that are not fully perceived, as well as the afterimages of fleeting moments in everyday life that are often overlooked.

My earlier works began with specific incidents, but gradually expanded through narrative development. In an attempt to shift away from darker themes, I adopted a fairy-tale narrative structure, leading to the Cinderella series.

In this series, a small and seemingly insignificant duck appears. This presence functions as a turning point in the narrative, becoming a symbol of hope that alters the flow of the story.

A small light in an ordinary life may seem insignificant, yet within complete darkness, even the smallest light shines most brilliantly.

Through my work, I hope to become a small light within the unseen darkness of everyday life, offering a signpost for those who have lost their way.

달리는 기차 안에서 바라보는 풍경은 연속적인 흐름과 잔상으로 남게 되는데, 이 현상은 의학용어로 ‘피크노랩시: 기억부재증’이라 불리며, 인지되지 못한 채 스쳐 지나가는 이미지들을 설명한다.

디지털 매체 속에서도 이러한 피크노랩시적 현상은 반복되는데, 빠르게 스쳐 지나가는 수많은 콘텐츠 속에서 우리는 점차 깊이 있는 사유의 시간을 잃어가고 있다.

또한 여전히 반복되고있는 사회적 문제들 역시 이 피크노랩시 현상의 결과일지도 모른다. 잠시 이슈화되었다가 금세 잊혀지는 사건들을 보며, 나는 기억의 부재를 기록하고자 작업을 시작했고, 일상적인 이미지를 통해 피크노랩시 현상을 시각화 해왔다.

시간여행자 시리즈는 잠시 사건에서 벗어나, 우리가 무심코 지나쳤던 삶의 중요한 순간들에 대한 사유의 시간을 확보하여 삶을 다시 회복하는 플랫폼으로 조금은 유쾌하게 풀어내고 싶었다. 이를 시각화하기 위한 과정들은 지난 피드에서 설명한 바 있으며, 다양한 인물들이 등장하게 된 이유도 같은 맥락 속에 있다.

궁극적으로 나의 작업은 피크노랩시 현상으로 스쳐간 잔상들을 기록하고, 각자가 찾게 될 사유의 시간이 새로운 여정의 이정표가 되기를 바라며 작업을 이어가고 있는 중이다.

The scenery observed from a moving train remains in memory as a continuous flow and afterimage. This phenomenon, referred to as pyknolepsy, describes images that pass by without being fully perceived.

A similar condition occurs within digital media. As countless pieces of content rapidly pass by, we gradually lose the time and space for deeper contemplation.

Repeated social issues may also be a result of this phenomenon. As events briefly gain attention and are quickly forgotten, I began my work by attempting to record this absence of memory, visualizing pyknoleptic conditions through everyday imagery.

The “Time Traveler” series moves slightly away from the event itself, seeking to reclaim moments of reflection on what we may have overlooked. It unfolds as a somewhat playful platform, allowing viewers to rediscover and restore their own sense of time and life.

Ultimately, my work records the afterimages that pass through this condition, hoping that each viewer’s moment of contemplation may become a signpost for a new journey.

미디어 시대에 홍수같이 쏟아지는 뉴스들은 전달되는 속도에 비례 하여 파편화되고 망각되어져 쉽게 잊혀집니다.
저는 의식의 부재 상태에 머물러 있는 사건들을 수집하여 기억속에 다시 소환 시켜 작업을 시작합니다.

사건 속 실제 이야기들은 잔인하거나 자극적인 내용을 담고있기도 하지만 나의 작품 속에는 자극적이거나 잔인한 장면은 등장하지 않습니다. 어딘가에서 마주쳤을지 모르는 평범한 것들로 채워집니다. 누군가에게는 평범한 일상이 누군가에게는 저 어둠 속 길을 찾을 수 조차 없는 순간 일 수 있듯이 말입니다.

대부분의 사건, 사고는 우리 주변에서 일어나지만 바쁜 현대사회에서는 이것을 알아차리기 쉽지 않습니다.
주변을 대하는 스테레오타입과 정보 전달 속도에 의해 파편화 되어 망각 된 기억이 맞물려 나타나게 되는 현상 일지도 모릅니다. 그렇게 잊혀 졌거나 지나친 사건에 대해 충분히 사유할 수 있는 시간을 작업을 통해 확보하고자 합니다.

적당히 평범한 일상 속에서는 작은 불빛은 가치없어 보일지 모르지만 완벽한 어두움 속에서는 작은 빛 조차 찬란하게 느껴질 수 있듯이, 나의 작업이 일상 속 어두움을 비추는 작은 불빛이 되길 바랍니다.

My work begins with forgotten incidents. In the age of mass media, news floods in endlessly, yet disappears just as quickly, fragmented and forgotten.

I collect these events that remain in a state of absence, recalling them into memory and translating them into painting.

While the real stories behind these events may contain violence or intensity, such imagery does not appear in my work. Instead, the scenes are composed of ordinary, everyday elements— moments that one may have encountered somewhere before.

What appears as an ordinary scene to one person may represent a moment of profound darkness to another. Through this duality, I attempt to reveal the hidden layers within everyday life.

Most incidents occur around us, yet in the fast pace of contemporary life, they are rarely recognized. Shaped by stereotypes and the speed of information, memory becomes fragmented and eventually forgotten.

Through my work, I seek to create a space where these overlooked events can be contemplated once again.

Just as a small light may seem insignificant in ordinary circumstances, it becomes radiant in complete darkness. I hope my work can serve as such a light, illuminating the unseen shadows of everyday life.

사건, 사고, 사회적 이슈 등을 모티브로 작업을 하지만 작품속에는 자극적인 장면이나 잔인한 흉기는 등장 하지 않습니다. 사건을 기억하지 못하는 사람들에게는 그저 일상 속 한 장면으로 보일 뿐입니다.

누군가에게는 평범한 일상이 누군가에게는 그렇지 않을 수 있는 일상의 양면성을 표현하고자 의도한 구성입니다.
대부분의 사건, 사고는 우리 주변에서 일어나곤 하지만 바쁜 현대사회에서는 주변과 일상에 대해서는 관심이 없으며, 보이지 않는 것 보다 보이는 것으로만 판단하는 스테레오타입과 정보 전달 속도에 의해 파편화 되어 망각 된 기억이 맞물려 나타나게 되는 현상 일지도 모릅니다.

그렇게 잊혀 졌거나 지나친 사건에 대해 충분히 사유할 수 있는 시간을 저의 작품을 통해 확보하고자 합니다.

I collect these events that remain in a state of absence and visualize them, bringing them back into memory.

Although my work is based on incidents and social issues, it does not depict violent or explicit scenes. For those who do not recognize the event, the image appears as nothing more than a fragment of everyday life.

What is ordinary for one person may be entirely different for another. Through this contrast, I aim to reveal the dual nature of daily life.

Many incidents occur around us, yet in the speed of modern society, we often fail to notice them. Shaped by stereotypes and rapid information flow, memory becomes fragmented and fades away.

Through my work, I seek to create space for reflection on what has been forgotten or overlooked.

오늘날, 안타까운 사건 사고들이 일상이라는 테두리 안에서 그것을 무심코 지나치는 사람들의 선입견에 대하여 이야기 하고자 한다. 나의 작업은 일상속의 한 장면 같지만 실제는 어떠한 사건과 사고들의 이면을 담고 있는 일상의 양면성을 시각화 한 것이다.

미디어의 발달로 쏟아지는 각종 사회적인 문제들과 사건들은 실제 그 사건이 해결되지 않은 채 일정 시간이 지나면 잊혀지거나 다른 뉴스에 가려진다. 많은 것들이 디지털화 되는 현대사회에서 그 해결책을 찾게 될 때 까지 사람들의 기억속에서 쉽게 잊혀지지 않도록 디지털화가 아닌 아날로그의 평면 작업으로 사실주의적 표현을 한다.

우리가 스테레오타입으로 일상을 무심하게 대하듯 무심코 지나치는 사건, 사고 들에 대해 한번 더 생각할 수 있도록 겉으로 보기에는 마치 일상 속 모습으로 재구성한 작업이다. 재구성된 장면은 실제와는 다를 수 있을 수 있지만, 그 안에 실제 사건을 향한 깊은 사유를 담고, 우리가 앞으로 마주하고 풀어가야 할 사회의 어두운 이면에 작은 희망을 비추고자 한다.

Today, I seek to speak about the preconceptions through which people unconsciously overlook tragic incidents, as they are absorbed into the frame of everyday life. While these scenes may appear to be ordinary moments, they in fact visualize the dual nature of daily life, containing the hidden layers of various real-world events and accidents.

With the rapid development of media, countless social issues and incidents are constantly presented to us; yet, before they are truly resolved, they are often forgotten over time or obscured by the next wave of news. In a digital transformation society where nearly everything becomes digitized, I choose to work in an analog, two-dimensional format with a realist approach, so that these events are not easily erased from people’s memory until meaningful resolutions are found.

Just as we tend to approach daily life with stereotypical indifference, this work reconstructs moments that appear deceptively ordinary, encouraging viewers to reconsider the incidents and accidents we so easily pass by. Although these reconstructed scenes may differ slightly from reality, they carry a deep contemplation of real events, while also seeking to cast a small light of hope upon the darker aspects of society that we must confront and resolve moving forward.
